Former finance minister Sartaj Aziz has passed away, as confirmed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal in a recent post. "Mr Sartaj Aziz has passed away. He was a veteran of the Pakistan movement & a great asset for the nation.
He will be missed very much. His services for the nation will always be remembered," Iqbal wrote on the microblogging site.
Born in February 1929 in Nowshera, Aziz was a seasoned politician affiliated with the Nawaz Sharif-led party. Throughout his long political career, he held significant governmental positions, including the role of minister for finance and economic affairs.
Aziz served as a senator from 1985 to 1999 and was elected as an adviser on national security and foreign affairs in the 2013 general elections. His contributions to the nation were acknowledged and appreciated by many.
President Arif Alvi expressed his condolences on the sad demise of the senior politician, extending grief and solidarity to his survivors. He also offered prayers for Aziz's forgiveness and patience for his grieving family.
